The Global Network for Refugees and Displaced Persons lit the torch of return in Dheisheh camp simultaneously with other camps in the West Bank and the Palestinian diaspora. The event also included the lifting of the keys to return that have been preserved since the year of the Nakba (1948) until today, as a reminder of our inevitable and certain return. The symbolic act of lightning the torches and hanging the keys were held in several refugee camps among the Arab world and numerous cities worldwide (from Jerusalem to Paris, from Dheisheh camp to Ain al-Hilweh camp and Shatila, from Nazareth and Haifa to Geneva), reflecting the strong connection Palestinians around the world still feel until today. This connection is underlined by the continued faith into the right to return to their homeland and the country which they were expelled from. Events like the Nakba-Day are a prove that the Palestinian people will never forget their right to return to their homeland, despite the 74 years of colonial occupation and attempts of erasing the Palestinian memory, culture and people. On the contrary: Day by day, Palestinians are ascertaining and assuring the world through their steadfastness and actions that the right to return is not lost or budged with the passing of time. This Palestinian cohesion is getting stronger, more rooted and solidifying until the day of return and liberation has come.
